Over the last month, the Narcomey squad has been looking for a new place to call home. We made a wish list for fun when we started the "journey."
Things are going well so far. We want to enjoy the process and not get boggled down with little things, which is easy to do. We haven't found THE home, but we're trusting God to place us where we need to be. We can't make the plan on our own.
"Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.”
But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil. Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin." James 4:13-17
Tod and I are trying to sort through needs and wants that we have for a home right now. We have a lot of preferences in a home and it sure is hard to make compromises! For example, we would LOVE to have a four bedroom home (we currently rent a "two bedder") because my family visits a lot and we love to host our friends. I tend to lean more towards an updated, move-in-ready home, while my hubs is more attracted to a fixer-upper. Aren't most men? We joked about our realtor (another man interested in fixer-uppers) moving in with Tod to renovate while the kids and I moved in with his wife.
We want to trust God in providing a place and be joyful and content about the decision we end up making.
Some questions we've asked ourselves in the house hunt (and some we may compromise on):
-Can we afford this in the long run, including any renovations that the house might need?
-Is there room to grow?
-Would it be a far commute to work or church?
-Is the kitchen (counter space) a decent size?
-Is the backyard a decent sized play area?
-Does the master bathroom have counter-space? (We currently do not have any space ;)
-How is the neighborhood? Walkable with kiddos?
What about you?
There's a lot to consider in house hunting, and we're definitely thankful for our realtor (and friend) who's been patience with us through this journey. Pray for us as we continue the search. Hopefully, I will be blogging about our new house soon :)
